iPhone 16 case variants are hinted at by leaked models

We've long believed that the iPhone 16 series will upend existing iPhone screen sizes, and the most recent collection of leaked iPhone 16 case dummies provides evidence of how these speculated size changes might actually play out.

A new image of the iPhone 16 dummy unit, leaked to X by Apple insider Sonny Dickson (via PhoneArena), shows the four suspected iPhone 16 versions side by side in decreasing order of perceived premiumness: the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max.

The iPhone 16 Pro Max, which measures 6.9 inches (up from 6.7 inches last year), is labeled as the largest phone of the bunch, as you can see below. The iPhone 16 Pro also receives a size bump, going from 6.1 inches to 6.3 inches. According to the listing, the screen sizes of the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus will remain at 6.1 inches and 6.7 inches, respectively. This corresponds with all of the prior speculations that we have heard about the sizes of these phones' screens.

These new iPhone 16 dummy units seem to confirm the notion that the cameras on the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus would be positioned vertically rather than diagonally, in addition to the screen sizes.

Why would Apple consider reverting to the design of the iPhone 12? We believe that spatial video may be the cause, as the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus are unable to shoot spatial video, whereas the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max are able to. The idea is that the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max can simultaneously shoot from two somewhat different camera perspectives thanks to their two vertically placed lenses, but the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus cannot employ the same technique.

Therefore, Apple may be able to reach a wider audience with the spatial video format and boost sales of the Apple Vision Pro by including vertically oriented camera lenses in the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus. Alternatively, the business may simply favor the iPhone 12 camera design, but we're crossing our fingers that the report about spatial video is accurate.

The positioning of the cameras on the upcoming iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max is predicted to remain the same, and this is evident in the most recent batch of mockups. On the other hand, it is said that the larger screens on both the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max will enable improvements to the ultrawide camera and an increase in the optical zoom range for the iPhone 16 Pro Max.
